The Future of Learning: Digital, Data-driven, and Distributed – George Siemens, April 13th
This year’s Schmidt Family Educational Technologies Lecture will be given by George Siemens, Executive Director of the Learning Innovation and Networked Knowledge Research Lab at the University of Texas at Arlington. Siemens’ lecture, “The Future of Learning: Digital, Data-driven, and Distributed,” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 13th, at 4:10pm in the Jacobs Auditorium in Featheringill Hall.
George Siemens is an internationally renowned expert in digital, networked, and open learning. Siemens is the Executive Director of the Learning Innovation and Networked Knowledge Research Lab at the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to his move to UT-Arlington, he was Associate Director of the Technology Enhanced Knowledge Research Institute (TEKRI) at Athabasca University and Associate Director of Research and Development at the Learning Technologies Centre of the University of Manitoba. He co-taught the very first MOOCs (massive open online course) back in 2008, long before Coursera and edX came along. Siemens’ “connectivist” MOOCs featured peer-to-peer learning through blogs, Twitter, and other platforms. Siemens continues to lead research efforts into MOOCs and other forms of digital learning.
