Upcoming Deadlines for VIDL Faculty Grants.
The Vanderbilt Institute for Digital Learning (VIDL) offers support for faculty for research and instructional improvement, and support for students in the form of fellowships and internships. Support takes the form of limited monetary support, technical consulting, equipment loans and production services.
Faculty Programs
MacroGrants (Deadline April 28)
VU faculty and staff may apply for a seed-funding program to promote development and research in digital learning. The goal of this program is to jump start innovative projects that may otherwise not be undertaken, such as online closed seminars or digital learning workshops. Ideally, these projects will continue to grow beyond the initial seed-funding period. VIDL invites proposals for projects ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Applications are accepted twice yearly for mid-April and mid-October decisions.
Faculty Working Groups (Deadline April 28)
VU faculty members may apply to organize a new series of experimental working groups in digital innovation. These small working groups are designed to provide faculty with the resources for open-ended experimentation with a novel digital tool, pedagogic approach or research avenue.
MicroGrants (Accepted Anytime)
VU faculty and staff may apply for up to $500 with preference given to requests for the purchase of digital equipment to aid with innovative projects in teaching or research. Proposals will be accepted on a rolling basis year-round, and decisions on awards will be made once a month by the VIDL staff.
Student Programs
VIDL Graduate Fellows Program (Deadline April 21)
VIDL invites applications for graduate student fellowships for the upcoming academic year. Stipends will be $5,500 per academic year (this is intended to reflect a roughly 5-hour commitment weekly). Graduate Fellows of VIDL will advance scholarship in digital learning as well as learn about the many aspects of creating and evaluating digital learning content.
Student Awards (Nominations by April 17)
VIDL is seeking nominations for two student awards: The Prize for Digital Innovation by an Undergraduate Student and the Prize for Digital Innovation by a Graduate or Professional Student. Awards will be given for student projects that illustrate innovation in digital learning tied to either research or pedagogy, including research in the digital humanities.
For any questions about any of these programs, feel free to contact Ole Molvig, Assistant Director for Education and Research or VIDL’s Associate Director Gayathri Narasimham .
