CIRTL Coffee Hour, October 21 – Teaching and Research at Different Institutions
The 2010-2011 Coffee Hour Series provides an opportunity for STEM (science, technology, engineering, & math) graduate students and post docs to get together online and talk about careers and the academic job search. The series will be facilitated by a mix of young faculty who have recently secured positions and more seasoned tenured faculty. The next Coffee Hour will be held Thursday, October 21, 2010, from 12 to 1 pm Central.
Where Do You Want to Work? Teaching and Research at Different Institutions

- Dr. Sarah Bannen – Madison Area Technical College, Mathematics Department
What balance do you want between teaching and research? What are the differences teaching at a small liberal arts college, research university, or a 2 year community college? What is important to you regarding course load, student contact, research support, department size, or tenure requirements?
The diversity of post-secondary institutions may be far broader than you have considered. Come and hear a panel of new faculty from very different institutions talk about their teaching experiences and academic life. There will be lots of time for questions and discussion.
