Strategies for Grading

Date & Time: Thursday, September 13  4:10-5:30pm

Grading can be a source of stress for TAs, especially at the beginning of your graduate career. This hands-on workshop will familiarize participants with a variety of grading strategies and address questions like ‘What kind of feedback should you provide on student work, from essays to exams to oral presentations?’ ‘How do you know if you’re being fair in your assessment?’ ‘What do you do when a student questions a grade?’ ‘Which specific strategies can you use to grade problem sets?’ And mostly, ‘How will you find the time to grade all of them?’

Facilitator: Nancy Chick, CFT Assistant Director and Beth Koontz, Graduate Teaching Fellow
Date & Time: Thursday, September 13  4:10-5:30pm
This workshop will be held at the Center for Teaching

These workshops focus on practical, concrete strategies for common teaching tasks, challenges, and opportunities.  These sessions draw on research-based best practices from the literature on teaching and learning and help participants consider ways to apply those best practices in their teaching. Teaching Workshops are typically a mix of presentation, large group discussion, small group activities, and times for individual reflection.
