What equipment will be installed in my classroom this fall?

In preparation for the upcoming semester, VUIT have outfitted a number of classrooms with a new technology package that captures audio and video of the instructor and, in some cases, audio of students.

You can find out the latest on room renovations, see what is included in the different room configurations, and watch a video of how to operate the classroom equipment on the VUIT Adaptive Learning page.

How can I purchase software I need?

Always check with VUIT before you purchase software, as many vendors have given special software configurations and discounts for Vanderbilt.

If you know what you’d like to accomplish but don’t know what software to choose, VUIT  offers information on products and can help with any requests you may have for finding and obtaining the right product or service for your needs.

The Software Store can be reached at (615) 343-3919 and the Service Catalog can be found here.

What is the best computer configuration for telecommuting and remote work?

Telecommuting or remote work requires the ability to seamlessly communicate via Vanderbilt’s telephone, email, instant messaging, and video conferencing services. You can see a suggested computer configuration for your home office, as well as a full list of supported software applications for remote work on the VUIT Telecommuting resource page.

When you work from home, you may have less bandwidth available to you than you had on campus. If your Internet speed is slow or you have issues connecting to virtual meetings, This one page guide can help you optimize your computer configurations and provides some helpful troubleshooting tips.

How do I remotely access files I have on my department’s server?

You can connect to Vanderbilt systems and computing resources with an internet connection authenticated by virtual private network (VPN) software. Security Operations has implemented a VPN solution to help meet the remote access needs of Vanderbilt faculty and staff.

The VUIT Remote Access page provides instructions, software download links, and operating system specifications so you install the right application for your needs.
